There Is More To Affiliate Marketing Than Just Selling Part 1

There is more to affiliate marketing than just selling stuff and making a bunch of money. Someone might be thinking, why then would I be selling stuff on the Internet if I am not here to make a bunch of money?

Let’s face it. The reason anyone gets into Internet Marketing or Affiliate Marketing is to make enough money to support a change in life style. But with anything, it is important that you enjoy what you do. Enjoying what you do is especially if you are in business for yourself.



Someone told me once the reason they are in business for themselves in the Internet was to make a lot of money.  There was another person who started an offline business because there were a lot of people making money in that particular business.

In both cases neither one of them cared anything for the product or type of business they were in.  As a result in both instances I have mentioned, these two individuals burned out.

When times got tough neither one had what it took to get through the proverbial wall.  And they both quit and are off doing something else.

Passion is the fuel that will get you through the tough times and help you appreciate and enjoy the successes.  The money is only a byproduct.  The money comes as a result of doing something you love.

People are not blind to someone trying to sell them.  And NO One likes to be sold.  This brings me to the second important of affiliate marketing.  Successful people who market other people’s products don’t sell anything.

Taking A Genuine Interest Pays Huge Dividends

They take interest in their customer and the needs and wants of the customer.  A good affiliate marketer will take time to get to know who their customer is.  A good marketer will go to great lengths to bring lots of value to their customer.


In the process of doing all this there is no emphasis to sell any product.  Oh, sure something might be recommended as far as how it will help their customer.  But the affiliate marketer who is not desperate and their focus is not on the sale as much as it is on the well-being of their customer will always have the interest of their customer at heart.

This might sound difficult, but actually it is very easy. When you take a particular interest in your customer and what they want, the decision to buy is easy for them.  When the affiliate marketer takes time to show true value and benefits to their customer the purchase becomes almost automatic.

The huge difference here is what I call desperation vs. value building.  When someone is selling, especially online, it communicates desperation.  When an affiliate marketer focusses on showing and demonstrating value, the entire element of desperation is completely removed. 

When the focus is the customer and the value to them, they have a sense of being valued.  When a customer feels valued, and the value of a product is the focus and it is a good fit, they will not think twice about making a purchase.  This point cannot be over emphasized if you want to succeed in this wonderful world of affiliate marketing.

Reduce Returns and Charge Backs on Purchases

When a customer makes a purchase in this fashion the return rate is much lower.  With fewer returns there is a higher rate of customer satisfaction. Not to mention the affiliate network is happier since they don’t like returns.

I can hear the words running through people’s heads reading this article.  They are saying, “But you don’t understand!  I need to make sales not friends. I don’t have time to focus on anything but the sales.” 

Yes, but what good is a sale if it doesn’t stick and you never get paid.  Sure you made a sale that was nothing more than an empty transaction.  Returns are like empty calories.  On one hand you have a sale and on the other hand you have nothing to show for it because the customer was not happy.


Happy customers equal Fewer Returns and Future Business!
