Affiliate marketing is an amazing business that can be scaled as big as you want it to be. As a particularly nice business to build in tough times and when the economy is down. Affiliate marketing can also be a fun business and with that being said everybody can use an affiliate marketing tip or two.
I love learning from my fellow marketers, so it is my hope that I can be of some help to you through this article.
There are many people who have started with few resources and have turned their business into a full time source of income. Like anything though when you’re first starting out it can be very overwhelming, and regardless of what anyone says, it takes work and patience.
It’s very easy to get overrun like a stampede of bulls with information. The best advice I can give anybody is to take the mountain of information that you will come up to and take small pieces and integrate those in your business before you start consuming additional information.
I had a supervisor that asked me one day. "Do you know how to eat and elephant?" I thought "what kind of question is that?" Since we were in the middle of a huge project with lots of deadlines it seemed overwhelming at times. I responded "No, I don't think I have." She looked at me and smiled and said, "One bite at a time."
Then it hit me. When you are face to face with a mountain you conquer it one step at a time.
Hopefully this article will answer a few questions you might have. Affiliate marketing can seem like a huge elephant are like Mt. Everest.
When starting out on a project and taking into consideration all the many layers of things that must be done it quickly becomes overwhelming. So, take it one step at time.
One of the first thing you want to do when selecting a a product to promote its ask for a review copy or testimonials of people who have bought the product previously. This is very important, especially if you’re starting out. It would be terrible to get a black eye from promoting a product that didn’t live up to the expectation of the customer. You want to make sure that you are always advertising and promoting the best quality products possible out there.
The only thing better than quality products is your own product. But, that is for another article.
We Never Have Enough Website Traffic
When it comes to driving website traffic to your offer it is not uncommon to become frustrated. One way of the many available ways to drive traffic is to partner with someone with a list. If you have an offer and you know someone that is in the same niche and has been there a while and are established, approach that business person and ask if they would mail to their list for a percentage of your commission.
Agree to return the favor at a later date when you get your list up and going.
Don’t look at people or competitors as your enemies, but instead see them as business partners. If you have a good offer it is more advantageous for a list owner to mail out your offer for a percentage of the commission than to sell a solo ad.
If you can mail to your list for them that helps them build their list and at the same they make a few dollars.
This is a great way to drive traffic to your offer and build a list at the same time. Another way to approach a list owner is to offer to pay them so much per click. When starting out, I don’t mind paying a little more to begin my list in a particular niche.
Affiliate marketing is no different than anything else. It is something that you have to work at consistently, diligently, without becoming discouraged. This means that it is necessary to write posts to your website frequently and promote them in as many places as possible on the Internet.
Unless you are promoting your own product, you are not the only one promoting any one affiliate product. This is why you must stand out from the competition.
Each article that is posted should be submitted to a pinging site as well as as many social sites as possible. By posting the link of your article that contains your offer on sites like StumbleUpon, Twitter, and Facebook for example are great ways to get links back to your article.
When promoting affiliate offers it is best to choose the ones that have and support materials to help promote that particular product. Some of the tools that are helpful are detailed statistics, payment reports, as well as banners and sales pages. It may be necessary to create
a pre-sale page to your product that is linked to from your articles.
Remember, a pre-sale page is nothing more than an introduction to the offer. It is not a sales page before the sales page. Introduce the offer and any bonuses you are including.
Customer Service Is About Trust
Probably the biggest mistake that marketers make is trying to high pressure people into buying. The thing to remember is that people do not like being sold to. When doing business on the Internet it is always best practice to soft sell people. What this means is, give away as much value as you can, build rapport, and trust.
Instead of looking at it from the standpoint of trying to make a certain number of sales every
day, change your mindset to look at it from the standpoint of giving away as much value, e-books, or views of a helpful video each day as you can. Don't shoot for sales but how many give aways you can give each day. When marketers take this approach people are less resistant to sign up or opt0-in to their email list.
That is the most important thing a marketer can do is get a name and email on their list. This is like gold. Once you have that person on your email list you now have somebody that is interested in your product or service, which makes them a highly targeted subscriber. Not to mention you can now communicate with them on an ongoing basis.
When it comes to giving away value and e-book on the topic or niche you are in is a great way of giving value for free. It doesn’t cost you any overhead. Done right your e-book could go viral causing an avalanche traffic to your site. The goal here though is making the e-book as helpful and valuable to your subscriber as possible.
When looking at sales pages for products there are a few things I always take into consideration.
The first thing I do is notice where my eyes go automatically when I look at the sales page. And when I have determined where my eyes fall most often take note of what is there. Does it draw you more into the page or is it a distraction? The bottom line is is it pleasing to the eye?
The next thing I look for our other distractions. Some sales pages are written like a blog post and have distractions or places where a person can click away from the page in the margin. If there are links to other pages or places in the website I will not promote that product. The last thing I want is someone clicking away from the sales page that I have worked hard to get them to.
When it comes to affiliate marketing, be realistic. The likelihood of you making a fortune off of just one product is highly unlikely. It is often necessary to have multiple streams of income from multiple niches. It may be necessary to launch several websites and different niches and products to find the one or two that convert well.
It’s important to take note of your process and of the things that work well, so that you can go back and do those things over and over. Once you find what works for you then you can scale that up in the sky’s the limit.
Training and A Mentor, Don't Reinvent the Wheel
Probably one of the most important and valuable things that any marketer can do, especially with technology progressing at the rate that it is, is to find a mentor or someone who is successful in the Internet marketing or affiliate marketing space.
This can alleviate a whole lot of frustration and springboard to forward toward success sooner than trying to reinvent the wheel.

The thing that’s important to remember is that successful marketers are students and lifelong learners of the trade.
Marketers are constantly learning and collaborating with each other. While on one hand they may compete for first Place on leaderboard’s, but at the end of the day they are there for each other.
So if you are serious about becoming a successful marketer or perhaps you are a successful marketer, and you would like to sharpen your saw and learn from a highly successful marketer as I have done, I encourage you not to pass up this opportunity.
